the man, the myth, the legend, back in the 80s jesse rae, along with roger troutman and bernie worrell, was part of the p-funk movement that was hugely influential to detroit’s early electronic experiments. lesser known is that the enigmatic scot-funk warrior later produced underground electronic tracks in the 90s. the inaugural release on glasgow label southside shufflers presents two of jesses shufflers on vinyl for the first time on the global 95 ep- a sampler from his pioneering 1995 album compression. ever the innovator, jesse recorded the album collaboratively using live isdn technology spanning three continents, with the resultant tracks fusing african, us electro-funk and old scots influences. 23 years later, jesse’s under the radar shufflers sound more relevant than ever. southside shufflers are a record label and sports collective based in glasgow with outposts in london and amsterdam. sss aint no half steppin!

a new ep from amsterdam based producer daniel jacques, titled last jaar, will follow up the exclusive ep from mysterious japanese producer shinichi atobe from 2016. last jaar will be released on jacques’ own jadac recordings record label and on this ep, he is bridging the gap between house, techno and r&b music.

5 would be the key number for the brand new chateau flight release on versatile. its been 5 years since the last release and it took 5 days to record. nicolas (i:cube) was busy with his own material, i moved to amsterdam 3 years ago and as we like to make music in the same space. it took a bit of time but finally it s here, the dam house ep. i invited nicolas to visit me last winter, not to do music but just for a cool adam hang out. this turned into 5 intense days of fun production in my studio. it was amazing for both of us to witness how our connection remained intact after all those years and the ideas came really quick. the vibes of the tracks all turned out pretty different, it s a true chateau flight kaleidoscope with an epic 10mn techno track sargan, a more house vibe, crazy (dam house mix), a heavy dark funk drive of lo and the ambient crazy(ambient mix). this record would have not been the same without redlight records,to whom this records dedicated. james and abel left their shop open at night just for us and as children in a candy store we went through the racks looking for samples that formed the inspiration for this ep.

up next on amsterdam’s format label is a four-tracker featuring original cuts and remixes by matrixxman, echologist and label boss juan sanchez himself.
the fourteenth format release is definitely one not to miss out on, as it offers material from some of today s most sought-after techno heads. up first is expiration, a joint effort from matrixxman and echologist. this one combines matrixxman’s signature bass and echologist’s one-of-a-kind dub techno flavors across a very trippy canvas. format’s juan sanchez follows with a dark and synth-heavy rework of the track. on fokus, juan displays a more melodic cut propelled by a playful groove. closing things off, matrixxman and echologist turn fokus into a crushing techno track filled with sweeping fx.
format continues with another strong release that’s destined to do the damage.

on the third release on his label, malin genie teams up with amsterdam resident and will & ink regular yaleesa hall for a trip into dubbed out techno and house territory. the ep opens with -oganesson,- an immersive track pivoting around gnarled, shape-shifting dub techno chords. -84- is a more energised cut, using a similar central melodic thread but driving it with a sprightly beat and playful threads of synth expression. -tournant- places the emphasis on textural sound design, embellishing a rugged techno rhythm with sonic matter that takes on an organic quality as it pulses and writhes around the beat. -coronal loop- finishes the ep off with an appropriately star-gazing jam that uses delay and reverb to great effect to create a sense of space in which nimble chord lines and other flourishes can cavort freely.

music from memory return with a further six tracks from dutch musician richenel. continuing with recordings taken from his debut album la diferencia, originally released in 1982 on the cult amsterdam cassette only label fetisj, the tracks on music from memorys second ep perfect stranger includes alternate takes drawn from richenel’s personal copy of the album alongside a further composition which didnt make it onto the original fetisj cassette.

breach is back with his second release of the year on his new imprint nkdltd. on nkdltd002 breach delivers a two tracker entitled ‘turtle dance which continues where he left off in quality but stylistically stepping into warmer tones for the summer months. nkdltd001 saw the first release from the amsterdam based producer in three years and with it a return to breachs roots. deep, dark & moody tracks which went on to resonate with a broad selection of artists including benji b who went on to play it numerous times on his seminal bbc radio 1 show.

some time around 20 years ago, the artist known as dub surgeon made an absorbing album of beautiful dub infused with ambiance, found sounds and horizontal rhythms. the lost future was recorded at the former amsterdam film academy where dub surgeon. the recording engineer for the project was ricardo villalobos. dub surgeon and ricardo villalobos then mastered it together, putting it through several vintage mixers and recording it to 2 inch tape. then, tragedy struck: a storm surged and ignited a fire that ravaged the studio. the master copy was thought to have been lost forever. dub surgeon stopped making music and disappeared into the shadows after just two eps on future dub in 2002/3. but one day 15 years later, totally out of the blue, he received a demo of the lost future. pay attention to this, it said. attached was a demo version of the long lost album and now, finally, it has a perfect and impossibly poetic home on dubais ark to ashes, which is named in homage to the story of lee scratch perry burning down his black ark studio to rid it of demons. sounding as fresh as ever, the lost future is an authentic dub experience with a story as special as the music itself.

amsterdam based luuk van dijk is welcomed into the hot creations fold this july with his heavy-hitting parallax e.p. chicago production wizard dj skull is also on board to rework the b-side. title track parallax is set to cause a serious stir at festivals and clubs alike this summer. the smattering of high-hats elevate the track as the space-like beeps and blips add another facet. on the flip, dimension applies an ominous vocal stab as the bass rumbles — perfect for low ceiling basement raves. on the remix, dj skull adds a touch of chicago class via some softer vocals, dubby chords and a pounding bass. at the tender age of 22, luuk van dijk has been signed to acclaimed labels such as viva music, roush, food music, sanity and lost records. championed by stalwarts such as steve lawler and eats everything, he has taken his sound to some of the world’s most prestigious events. ron maney aka dj skull became known for being one of the first djs to play the new sound coming out of chicago, honing his craft at the infamous music box and power plant. releasing records since the early 90s, he later launched his own labels hypnotic tones and wax candy records. recent releases have appeared on chiwax, domina trxxx and mentha records.

for the third release on intergraded, we welcome tracey to the label. having cut his teeth as a dj and producer in amsterdam over the last 15 years his sound has developed into something both classic and futuristic. across the “outcome” ep he follows on from his two excellent ep’s on “voyage direct”, with four tracks that traverse from electro, sci fi soundscapes and trippy club rhythms that fit perfectly into the sound of the label.

after breaking out of our holding facility in early 2017, we tracked the humanoid alien lifeform known as darling to a deep bunker in amsterdam. while we were unable to gain entry tio the inner chamber, an operative successfully placed an eavesdropping device close by. while monitoring the lifeform s movements, we were able to record eight musical compositions of varying lengths that it had created using a range of analogue and digital electronic instruments. we have called this collection tulipa moves. you will notice that the tracks utilise a variety of rhythmic patterns, explore unearthly but attractiuve sounds and are capable of stirring strong emotions in human listeners. we direct your attention towards the lilting, softly spun melancholia of composition 03 (codename so did we) the fluid, beat-free bliss of composition 05 (codename the m song), and the up-tempo positivity of composition 07 (codename kiss the glass), whose chiming, intertwined melodies and snappy rhythmic energy reminded us of so-called intelligent dance music. we were astonished by the quality and intricacy of these alien creations and those we have not described in detail. it strengthens our belief that darling is a lifeform with higher intelligence and otherworldly musical ability

salvador breed and stijn van beek met while studying sound design and music technology in 2006. ever since then the pair have been beavering away behind an arsenal of blinking banks in amsterdam. the musical fruit of their friendship is breek, a partnership that smears the boundaries of styles and sounds with festive flare and a rainbow steaked uniqueness. for their vinyl debut yokai, a candy coloured cornucopia of elements are swirled and whirled. braindance, electronica and neo-classical are festooned with dubby tones and underground grit in a unique sound of diverse textures and deep tones. faster works, like the swooping joy of yokai, are countered by more contemplative ama. hang is a whimsical dreamscape of squirming acid lines, crisp drums and angular notes that combine to produce a brilliantly bright piece. mu-onna and oiwa are more abstract works that melt vocals with sweet strings before the final piano swells and ambient rains of burabura. a daring and dynamic vinyl debut from this eccentric duo with stunning artwork from warren du preez and nick thornton jones.

through the years intacto records became a household name. the label was founded in amsterdam in 2004 under the collaborative genius of shinedoe and 2000 and one. it was launched as a platform for the by then strongly emerging amsterdam scene supporting a pack of local artists shaping a fresh distinctive sound which took over the electronic scene by storm. intactos defining sound included many styles and its catalogue is a melting pot of influences of which house and techno are the key elements. after running intacto records successfully for 14 years, shinedoe and 2000 and one have joined forces on their very first collaborative release. a ten year old unreleased 2000 and one track world of acid have been played out by shinedoe for years and received ecstatic feedback from the clubbing crowds. convincing him to release this timeless tune to scorch the dancefloors worldwide, shinedoe was inspired to do a remix. in return 2000 and one remixed her track acidploitation which she recently produced. acidploitation ep is the culmination of two dutch legends, defining their brilliant take on music once again

times of innocence etire en avant is a track by i:cube from 1996 recorded straight to tape, when he was still doing music in his bedroom at his parents house. this slow jam contains french hypnotizing aerobic lyrics combined with a funk filtered sample, perfect for a tantalising disco sleaze late night set. on the flip side, abel from the infamous red light records amsterdam offers us a surprising re-jam based on the original xxxx track released last year on the oeil cube ep speeding it up from 33 to 45 rpm, and then extending it for maximum effect. from cinematic slow boogie to proper boogie monster.

while attempting and failing to apprehend the shadowy figure known as max abysmal during a frenzied chase through the underground amsterdam arts establishment het skatecafe, we recovered a boxed reel of quarter-inch tape. intelligent assets have confirmed that this contains musical recordings of the type used to pass on coded messages to the safe trip organisation. the first recording we have titled donna, dont stop. we include it with this message so you can perform your own anaylsis. note the use of a rising and falling electronic motif capable of inducing a trance-like state in those untrained in listening to electronic music this potent and emotive. sutekhs mirage, the second coded composition, is bolder and warmer in tone, making use of dazzlingly colourful melodic patterns and passages of percussion that reference polyrhythms. do not be fooled by the surface beauty of this recording: it is capable of inducing hallucinations and irregular heartbeats, and therefore could be very dangerous in the wrong hands.

following the surprise release of his slow fade ep last month, daniel avery presents a collection of remixes from surgeon, actress and inga mauer. the remix ep will be released digitally and on 12inch vinyl on march 9th. widely regarded as one of uk electronic musics leading lights and arguably the finest techno dj in the world (fact), with a career spanning over 20 years, surgeon lends his clinical touch to radius, adding an erratic, propulsive beat to avery’s warm synth layers for one of his best remixes yet. werkdiscs head actress meanwhile delivers a pared back and introspective rework of slow fade, shrouding the synth refrain in hypnotic, distorted production, in his first remix following the release of his critically acclaimed 2017 album azd. bunker records inga mauer completes the package, offering a claustrophobic mix pierced with metallic shards that confirms what resident advisor said of the uncompromising russian-born amsterdam-based dj and producer last year: mauer is destined for big things.

phantasm is a new vinyl label and collaboration between amsterdam s sinchi collective and the much-admired night noise outlet, based in geneva. it kicks off with a strong ep from the soviet union aka richard baldwin, including classy remixes from sinchi themselves and in flagranti. baldwin has a signature style that is cinematic and synth heavy and has been formed over the last decade plus. a fine dj, experienced promoter and self-confessed addict of vintage analogue synthesizers and drum machines, richard pulls his influences from early electronica, 80s film-scores, and shades of techno right up to the present day. this track was first written on a cold evening in december 2010 using a roland tr707 and jx8p synth. after collaborating with his songwriting partner the track was given a haunting vocal and released as the disappearance of becky sharp , while the original remained on baldwin s soundcloud and got id requests from all over the world. 7 years later it comes back to life in the form of its original instrumental, with a 2017 rework, plus remixes by sinchi and in flagranti.

frits wentink is back with his bobby donny label for his annual special edition vinyl only release for amsterdam institution, mary go wild! bodomrgwld03, features the crystal clear and mesmerizing vocals of loes jongerling, accompanied by frits on keys.

job sifre is one of the guys bringing new blood into the amsterdam scene. this is the follow-up to his recently released debut on the new artifical space label, where he continues his path of solid ebm fueled electronix. the record ends with the gorgeous at least we try, showing of his more tripping, rhythmic side. beautiful complementary artwork by stefan unkovic.

yaleesa hall is back on his home label will & ink with two eps in quick succession. after releasing his debut album in 2016 this is the first solo output from the amsterdam based producer on the label. this first ep is entitled zoe hayley laura and features a trio of tracks that melt electro, techno and broken beats in arresting ways. opening up the ep is zoe price, a silky electro track with shooting synths and big downward bass strikes that add real depth. it s a urgent and arresting affair to wake up the floor. hayley roach then has much more forceful drums that come in one two punch combinations to the gut. synths writhe and gurgle up top as pads rise up and down the scale and the whole thing is brilliantly large. laura pomeroy then rocks back and forth on its heels, with train track like percussion and malfunctioning machine stabs. it s a real tussle between different elements and locks you right in as a result. once again then, the irrepressible yaleesa hall leads from the front.

were super excited to present the latest artist to join the dirt crew stable, french producer sekou babe. he ticked all the right boxes for us with this beautiful debut ep foresight prevents blindness which explores his fresh and vibey outlook on house with sideways glances to smokey jazz, breaks and garage. the a-side lines up three varied tunes. perspectives of the youth and soukoun step in quickly with lively breakbeat rhythms. the first boasting warm soul vocals and steady bass groove, the second a melancholic yet uplifting back and forth between vintage piano and warbling rhodes. treize zero zero trois is a deep and dreamy house jam. cinematic elements infused with punchy percussion and 80s sonic touches add up to good times all round. on the b, our good friend nachtbraker does what he does best, flipping treize zero zero trois bringing the deep, dubby amsterdam vibrations. his version is lush, textural and slightly fruity, with surging synths, tropical percussion and a stomping kick. sekou babe rounds things off with the extravagant crown collection, showing us yet another colour in his musical spectrum. its trip hop meets detroit where warped strings introduce shuffling drums before the track begins to build layering subtle arpeggios, smooth pads, crash hits and a buoyant melody. sekou babe would like to add that all tracks were written and produced by b.b. at 7e republique studio and says thanks to peter, ghizlene, mohammed and florian, you beautiful souls.

amsterdam label taped artifact has lined up an ep from merv aka brian oldenborg and jan christiansen. after the re-melted reissue on styrax in 2015, this is the pairs third new ep in three years since coming back after first making music back in the mid nineties. their warm dub and techno style is still very much fresh and arresting. blueprint opens the ep with eight enthralling minutes of percolating drums and shuffling hi hats. frosty yet warm, it’s a cavernous affair with a hypnotic riffs sucking you in over and over. shine is more upright techno, but the rock solid kicks are still draped with rippling, static coated chords that ripple out in all directions. rotundum closes things out with synth waves gently breaking over hunched drums that build the pressure. it’s tense and engaging while remaining thoroughly atmospheric.
